Yeates Featured in WCAX Story

Letter to the Editor - November 2, 2008

I am writing to ask for your consideration and support of my nephew, Taylor Yeates, for the position of State Representative in Richmond.

I serve on the Board of Civil Authority in Richmond and in past elections we/voters/people have repeatedly asked “how do we get the next generation interested and involved in the political arena?”

Taylor’s decision to seek the position of State Representative is an opportunity to allow this to happen.

I have had the pleasure to watch him grow into an intelligent, articulate young man with a strong sense of self, family and community. In working with me, for the past four summers, he has proven himself by his strong work ethic, his motivation and his reliability. He expresses himself in a mature confident manner, is open minded and educates himself on matters of which he may not have complete knowledge.

Taylor has shown his involvement and leadership qualities by being chosen to attend Boys State in June where he was elected Governor by his peers. He attended Boys Nation in Washington DC shortly after, where he was appointed, again by his peers, to the position of Secretary of Agriculture. He is presently juggling academics, serving as a captain of his soccer team, working weekends at our farm, and knocking on doors to introduce himself to the voters of Richmond.

His knowledge of community, state, national and world affairs is impressive, allowing him to engage in serious, meaningful discussions with both his peers and adults We should not take lightly the fact that his decision to become involved has ignited the interest of his peers, both locally and across the state.

He is concerned for the future welfare and growth of his community and how that parallels the health of Vermont. He possesses an enthusiasm and willingness to learn and be proactive, which will surely benefit Richmond and Vermont.

A vote for Taylor Yeates is a tremendous opportunity to involve the next generation in shaping the future of our community and state. I ask you to consider that opportunity on November 4, with a vote for him.

Letter to the Times Ink - September 26, 2008

Dear Editor.
This is a letter in support of the work ethic, professionalism and experience of Taylor Yeates who is running for state representative for Richmond, Vermont.  Taylor is a senior at Mt. Mansfield Union High School.  As a junior he was voted by seniors to serve as class marshall.  The faculty elected Taylor to attend Boys' State, and the Vermont delegation at Boys' State elected Taylor (as one of two Vermont young men) to represent Vermont at Boys' Nation.  In Washington DC, Taylor acted on behalf of Vermont's interests.  He met with Representative Welch and Senators Leahy and Sanders and he met President George Bush.  Taylor reflected both on the struggles of Vermonters locally, and the context of Vermont's issues in our nation.

These nominations, experiences and elections represent Taylor's  leadership, ethics, commitment to the people, and the understanding of issues.

Taylor is an articulate speaker and can convey a position.  He is the MC at our home winter athletic events. Whenever this is a concern at the high school, Talyor attacks the issue with professionalism.  He garners support from individuals, and presents his position in writing and offers a viable solution.  He does this with humor, respect  and energy that I have seen in few young men.

Taylor spends summers and weekends working on Conant's (his Aunt and Uncle) farm in Richmond.  He keenly listens to the issues of farmers and the needs of our shrinking agricultural economy.  Taylor reads about education and understands the issues facing young men and women in Vermont.  He talks about these issues and takes action on the local level at the high school.

When conversing with Taylor in the cafeteria and halls of the school, he has a mature understanding of the world.  In French he is completing an independent study project on the political systems of France.

For more information, visit Mr. Yeates website: tayloryeates.com.  Although I am not a resident of Richmond, I feel as though I am part of the extended community and I give Taylor FJ Yeates III  my full support as he runs to be elected as Richmond representative to the Vermont House of Representatives.

Sincerely,
Jennifer Botzojorns
